
The aim of the new project is to upgrade key power lines across the UK, potentially saving consumers up to £50 million in constraint costs across a 5 year period.
Combined with the construction of new infrastructure, this dynamic line rating project is a part of National Grid’s ongoing work to upgrade and adapt the UK power grid to meet a quickly increasing electricity demand.

The recently signed framework agreement will cover all of the company’s dynamic line rating installations for the 5 next years, with the project set to start this year across their networks in North East, Humber and East Anglia.
Building on National Grid’s historic work with DLR, the addition of 39 further grid circuits will take their total tally of grid covered up to 900km, primarily key lines between the northern and southern parts of the country.

The drone installation capabilities of Heimdall Power will be utilized to ensure fast, safe and cost-effective deployment of sensors, without requiring any form of outage or disruption of the power networks.
This marks Heimdall Power’s fourth deployment across the British Isles, including significant ongoing projects with NIE in Northern Ireland and ESB Networks & Eirgrid in Ireland.
